DAY 2: August 20 SALISBURY, STONEHENGE AND BATH

Good Morning! Your full English breakfast at the hotel is a great start to a great day exploring the English countryside. Collect your picnic box lunch at the hotel reception and meet your deluxe private coach and English speaking guide for a charming and refreshing full day tour of Salisbury, Bath and the fabled Stonehenge. The first stop on your tour will Salisbury a city that is steeped in history. Salisbury Cathedral is unique amongst medieval cathedrals, built within one century with no substantial later additions. But it is much more than an historical monument. It is the Cathedral Church of the Salisbury diocese and so the Mother Church of several hundred parishes in Wiltshire and Dorset. It is a centre of pilgrimage for hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. Every day, week in week out, for century after century, God is worshipped here. Above all it is a place of prayer. Next it’s on to the mystical, magical and monumental site of Stonehenge. 5,000-year-old Stonehenge is Europe’s most famous prehistoric site and, though we know from the stone’s alignment that worship of the sun took place here, the rituals themselves and methods of construction are still shrouded in mystery. The final stop is the beautiful Georgian city of Bath. Bath is Jane Austen country and this ancient city retains so much of its Georgian charm that Austen fans will recognize many streets and squares from her novels. You will experience the magnificent Royal Crescent, perhaps the most attractive street in the country and visit the preserved Roman Baths. Then it’s back to London for an early evening arrival.  Overnight at your hotel.(B,L)

DAY 3: August 21 LONDON - FULL DAY CITY TOUR - WELCOME DINNER

This morning after a full English breakfast at the hotel, you will be collected by private coach for a full day city tour of London by your experienced tour guide.Sights include: Westminster Abbey:  An architectural masterpiece of the 13th to 16th centuries. Westminster Abbey also presents a unique pageant of British history – the shrine of St Edward the Confessor, the tombs of kings and queens, and countless memorials to the famous and the great. It has been the setting for every Coronation since 1066 and for numerous other royal occasions including the funeral of Princess Diana in 1997.Tower of London: Learn about its fascinating, and often bloody history. Work commenced on this riverside fortress 900 years ago, and the structure we see today was completed in the 14th Century. The Tower was the refuge of Richard II during the Peasants’ Revolt, the prison of Sir Thomas More, Sir Walter Raleigh and the future Queen Elizabeth, and the execution place of Lady Jane Grey (British sovereign for 9 days), and Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard, Henry VIII’s second and fourth queens. Today, the Tower is home to the priceless Crown Jewels and it is now possible to view them at close quarters. The White Tower, Royal Armouries and Traitor’s Gate give an insight into the turbulent medieval history of the city, and the Royal Chapel is the resting place of many of the Tower’s victims. The Yeoman Warders (often called Beefeaters) and ravens (whose desertion of the Tower is thought to herald the fall of the British monarchy) are all part of the tradition. Buckingham Palace  You will have the opportunity to visit the magnificent State Rooms, lavishly furnished with some of the greatest treasures from the Royal Collection.  Today Buckingham Palace serves as both the office and London residence of Her Majesty The Queen, as well as the administrative headquarters of the Royal Household. It is one of the few working royal palaces remaining in the world today. The State Rooms are used extensively by The Queen and Members of the Royal Family to receive and entertain their guests on State, ceremonial and official occasions. (Pub Lunch included)

This evening you will be collected from your hotel as you are cordially invited to meet your fellow cruise mates for a Surprise Welcome Dinner. Overnight at your hotel. (B,L,D)
